FLEAS
Common Forms:
Cat Flea (ctenocephalides felis)
Dog Flea (ctenocephalides canis)
Human Flea (pulex irritans)
Importance:
The cat flea is by far the most common flea although all fleas can be treated
the same with regards to importance and control. Primarily considered a pest
due to the irratating nature of the bites, fleas are also vectors of disease
(the bubonic plague was spread by fleas).
Control:
The first stage in effective control is a thorough vacuuming of the infested
property, paying particular attention to bedrooms, sofas, chairs, carpets and
pets bedding areas. If there are any pets on the premises it is important to
have them treated at a vetinary practice. The second stage will be a thorough
treatment with a residual insecticide.
